tonnes.

this week’s task was to write a sonnet. now, i wasn’t at the seminar this week so i’m not entirely sure about the specifics. i do know that a sonnet is fourteen lines. however, i am not sure how they are meant to be divided (is the eight and six thing essential…?) or rhyming etc. but rules are meant to be broken, right? here is mine, i hope you like.

———–

Bastard ideas outside the window,
those ninjas and gunslingers
all distracting me as I swallow
their myriad ideas, multiplying like bacteria,
stealing my mind from the matter at hand.
Now, send pen to paper; in anticipation,
and frantic electricity to the inspiration gland.
So here, for your delectation; my chemical reaction.

I see you tracing the patterns of rainbows
finding the meaning in between the words,
and trying to fill your โ€˜furnishedโ€™ soul,
but in spite of what you heard,
there is not tonnes of weight
to this song, this sonnet.

  1. I like your sonnet, the ending made me giggle ๐Ÿ™‚ However, I reckon you should have a go at writing one that does follousing idea to sort it all out in nice rhyming coupletsw all the rules, i.e. iambic pentameter and all that, because it’s a challenge and I find the thought process is totally different. Sometimes it helps if you have a confusing idea to sort it all out in nice rhyming couplets. Well, attempt to. Anyways,I think breaking rules is more fun when you know what they are.

    • yo ๐Ÿ™‚ in all honesty, i have never understood metre, so i go by the ginsberg idea of ‘if it sounds good, okay’ rather than focusing on rhythm and meter. also i wasn’t going for rhyming couplets; i was using shakespearian sonnets as a model, i.e. a-b-a-b-c-d-c-d-e-f-e-f-g-g as a rhyme scheme.

glad you liked it though. also glad you are finally posting again ๐Ÿ™‚
